TIBS Fast Facts
KEY FACT:
Bellaire High School in Bellaire became the first IB World School in Texas when it was authorized to offer the DP in 1979. Today, the state has one of the highest concentrations of IB World Schools in the world; if Texas were a country, it would be ranked 5 out of 144 in total IB World Schools, behind the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
KEY EVENTS:

The IB coordinators formed the official Texas International Baccalaureate Schools (TIBS) organization in 1996 with the organizational panel consisting of Cynthia Smith from Garland High School, Lisa White from John Tyler High School, and Kathy Huth from Judson High School.

The TIBS organization formed a governing Board of Directors in 2000 that continues today. At that time, a TIBS constitution was developed and ratified by all members.

Beginning of 2004 the TIBS organization hired Karen Phillips, former IB Coordinator, as the Executive Director for TIBS.
How many IB World Schools are present in Texas today, and which programmes do they implement?
• There are currently 111 IB World Schools in Texas implementing 130 IB programmes (given that some schools implement several programmes at once).
• The DP accounts for 52 of these programmes (40%), while the MYP accounts for 30%, the PYP for 27%, and the IBCC for 3%.
• In the United States, there are 778 DP, accounting for 50% of all IB programmes; there are 467 MYP (30% of the total), and 333 PYP (21% of the total).
How many IB World Schools in Texas are private and how many are public?
• In Texas, 101 IB World Schools are public and 10 IB World Schools are private.
• The majority of IB World Schools in the US are public (90%).
Where are IB World Schools located?
• IB World Schools are located in 44 different cities throughout Texas.
• Houston has the largest concentration of IB World Schools with 17.
